In 2013, the majority (64.4%) of smokers were seriously considering quitting in the next 6 months (Figure 6.7). Of those, half (49.7%) were considering quitting within the next 30 days, which was equivalent to 31.2% of all current smokers.

Between 2012 and 2013, there was no significant change in the percentage of smokers seriously considering quitting, either in the next 6 months(51) or in the next 30 days(52).

Between 1999 and 2013, the percentage of smokers seriously considering quitting in the next 6 months appears to have increased slightly. Although the pattern over time was similar for the percentage seriously considering quitting in the next 30 days, there was little net change (Figure 6.8)..
